It was very sad to have a cabin burn on Palomar. Many of us knew Cal and Doris Rainford who designed and built their home up here in the 1970’s. It was presently a rental. Click for the news article about the fire.
Maybe 8 or 10 years ago I was driving by their cabin and had to stop and take a pix of their tree in bloom. It is also on the Memorial page for Cal.

Cabin Fire on Palomar
Posted in Palomar Mountain News

Hey Bonnie That is sad news – I worry about fire. Ron Bowen put some solar panels in for me recently and the tree we cleared for them made a nice firebreak in the back yard. It is one year today that we closed escrow on my place. Ive had more fun up there that I ever imagined I would have. Sunday I actually hunted turkeys in the back yard – I didn’t get a shot at one but how much fun is that? They were gobbling and running all over the place. Wake up, walk 100 yards and go hunting…. In truth I feel rather protective of and attached to the animals up there so I’ll only take a big turkey or big deer. We’ve also got a family of foxes living nearby too Anyway I hope things are well Frank

It was very sad that a loveable German Shepard died as a result of the fire.
