Boucher Hill Lookout Restoration Begins!

Many thanks to Brad Eells for heading up the restoration High Point Lookout by the Observatory, and now Boucher Hill Lookout.  Two treasures on Palomar Mountain!  Boucher has much easier access for the Public to also enjoy being in the State Park and we all look forward to many visits enjoying this historic site and taking in that view.  A sincere THANK YOU Brad from all of us!  Bonnie Phelps

Subject: Boucher Hill Lookout Construction Begins!

I am very pleased to announce the building stabilization project has begun at Boucher Hill Lookout. The project will replace the roof sections, windows and catwalk. The 1970’s aluminum siding damaged in last winter’s storms will be removed and new original style wood siding will replace it. All lead paint, asbestos and biohazards will be removed and the floors will be repaired.

The lookout will be transferred to Palomar Mountain State Park at the completion of the project. The lookout will be restored and operated through the cooperation of the Park and the Forest Fire Lookout Association for fire detection, interpretation and education.

The two images show the scaffolding on the building.

To say that we are excited to move forward is a massive understatement…we truly hope to have the lookout open this Summer!

Cheers,

We’ve been seeing the scaffolding going up from our broadcast site on the peak to the north. Very exciting!
