Storms a brewin’ for a sweet weekend!

Coming across Crestline, I just had to pull over and take this. Another beautiful sunset from the mountain top. The weatherman keeps changing his mind, but we might have some snow on the way.

Hot chocolate or coffee, whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon ’round a warm fire… stop by and we’ll have one ready for you in a minute!

Hoping you all enjoy your Valentine’s Weekend!

Thank you John!!!

Years ago I met John Avery working on the telephone system up here. He was so kind to give me his cell number anytime I need AT&T help. We’ve spoken quite a few times over the past couple decades. This afternoon I was out in the clouds, crawling along State Park Road. See photo below with the low wire that had pulled free off a pole. It was hanging across the road, only about 8 feet off the ground. It was going to be dark soon and I can only imagine what might happen if a van or big bus heading to the Christian Conference Center drove by. Gave John a call, told him about the wire and invited him to pop in for hot soup. Glad he turned around and came back up to get here so quickly. He told the story of a similar situation in San Diego when an bus drove through a low wire and it took off the air conditioning units along the top.

We had such a nice visit. He mentioned one tower on Crestline that has a communication system for Delta Airlines, Highway Patrol and FBI. Another area serves Homeland Security, Sheriff and Police Communication. The big dish across from our house now bounces off Pala Casino to bring all our phone service up. So interesting.

Thank you John! We appreciate your commitment to Palomar these 23 years. You’ll welcome to drop in for soup, anytime!!!

In Dawn’s Early Light

Those of us on the mountain woke early to strong winds. It was so beautiful watching the darkness being chased away as the pastel colors brightened the sky. Then the wind really picked up so I took this from my desk before running out to bring in the flag.

When I clicked on the weather it said we might get 60 mph winds…. I believed it and brought in all our patio cushions and battened down the hatches!

This afternoon it was interesting to drive ’round the mountain and see small branches in so many places and then turn the corner and the road was totally clear. Interesting weather!

It has been so cold that we still have much of our last snow of about 4 inches here in State Park Road. The snow and ice is like a skating rink! Now, we’re promised another storm starting Sunday. The forecast keeps rising. Now maybe 5 inches?

Get your firewood in and keep that kettle going for your hot chocolate!

HOW much rain?!??

According to our neighbor/weatherman extraordinaire, Jim Hamerly has the rain totals for the last 90 days. We’re over here off State Park Road and realize different parts of the mountain can be quite varied for weather. He has recorded 46.23 inches of rain to date since November 1st. We also got a few inches of snow. Crestline had much more. So pretty out there!

Thinking of heading this way for a snow day? I would definitely avoid trying to come up on weekends. Midweek is always best and be sure to respect private property.

Its going to be a beautiful Spring! Keep those good numbers coming our way, thank you Jim!

Listing perk with Phelps Team

Have a place on the mountain you are considering of letting go? Let me tell you about one of our full-service perks. Part of our Team includes a certain tractor driver. He is out having a wonderful time during snow days, clearing the way for us to drive right in to show and sell. Since the beginning of the century, he has made it much easier for sellers to move out. Very happy new owners can unload easily and spend their first night at their new home, cabin or ranch.

(Thinking about that tractor driver I’ve been married to for decades, reminded me to look at the calendar. In two more days, he will have put up with me for 49 years!!! Can that be true?!?)

These owners flew in last night from out of state. They are on their way up to snag a few things and we’ll meet up to get everything rolling for you. Coming Soon! Along with 4 more listings with fun blue sky snow pix!

Always glad to talk Real Estate and just about anything else,

Bonnie Phelps, Realtor, DRE 01293655

Nathan Phelps, Broker, DRE 01410663

Don Phelps, Tractor Driver Extraordinaire, let’s see… Oh, I know: John Deere 5105

Calm between the Storms

Aren’t the views from this mountain amazing? So beautiful driving down East Grade Friday evening. Just had to take this for you.

James and Crew with the County Road Station have been working overtime to get the rock slides off the pavement. I noticed several areas where they pushed road debris to the outside edges. They have job security as there is more to watch out for today and clean up to do. Thanks guys for all you do up here!

So much rain the past few weeks and close to 7 inches last night alone! Weather forcasts vary for our favorite mountain but the one I follow is teasing with maybe a foot of snow over the next couple days: Winter Wonderland for Palomar?

Enjoy every minute and just a reminder that you can always stop by Starstrucks at our place for your favorite free coffee, hot chocolate and tea!
