Earl Walls retiring as Chair of Community Center!

How could we ever thank  Earl Walls for the tremendous work he has done for Palomar Mountain?  Just one of the ways he has given back to this community has been as the chair for the CCPM – Community Center of Palomar Mountain.   Earl had the vision of turning the very tired, cirica 1936 cabin, next the the fire into a nicely remodeled and furnished Community Center.  He didn’t waste any time rolling up his sleeves and going to work – most often all by himself  –  occasionally with a handful of volunteers to demo, repair, rebuild and transform the building into something to enjoy for generations to come.  Thanks Earl, from the bottom of our hearts!  Bonnie Phelps

Here is the message from Earl:

COMMUNITY CENTER OF PALOMAR MOUNTAIN, INC.

To the residents and friends of Palomar Mountain, from Earl L. Walls, retiring chairman of the Board of Directors:

As many of you are aware, during the past year and a half or so, we have been diligently working on the remodel of the house adjacent to the fire station garage to make it more suitable for use as a Community Center. Except for the painting of the outside, delayed for better weather to come, the remodel is complete. But this effort has come at a price of my failing to keep up with the fiduciary responsibility of meeting the requirements set forth in the by laws to have regular meetings, including annual meetings, during which elections of officers would occur. For this, I am deeply sorry and hope that you will forgive my lack of diligence.

On Saturday the 20th of this month there will be a St. Patrick’s Day dinner featuring corned beef and cabbage* and celebrating the Grand Opening of the Community Center. This is to be held at the Community Center and the adjacent Fire Station at five o’clock in the evening.

This event has two primary purposes:

To introduce the Center to the residents and interested visitors as to the benefits and services it provides to the Mountain.

To raise funds for repaying the PMPO for the loan extended by it to purchase the furnishings used in the Center; and to provide for the initial operating expenses anticipated for the first year of operation. It is my fervent hope that the community will respond openly and generously to this effort.

9 Acres on Upper Meadow Road For Sale

It was lightly snowing a couple nights ago when I drove by Upper Meadow Road and just had to take this photo.  The gated road leads you to an absolutely beautiful property with views across the county to Mexico and the Islands in the Pacific.  A few years ago I represented the properties on both sides of this nine acres.  So, I just happened to have some Fall and Winter photos for you from two of our beautiful seasons on the Mountain top.  Like what you see?  It can be yours!  Put your hiking boots on and let’s go!

New Weather Station

From: Robert Gonsett      A new automated weather station has been installed on Mt. Wilson.  Since Wilson is comparable in elevation to Palomar, this station may be of more than routine interest to Palomar residents and guests. Wilson is about 8 miles NE of Pasadena and 93 miles NW of Palomar. The weather station itself — a “Davis Vantage Vue” — is privately owned by one of the broadcast engineers on Wilson. The system went on-line Saturday, February 20, 2010. Everything is working except the video camera and that should be added in a couple of weeks. Other upgrades are expected shortly.

See the output of the weather station here  Bob Gonsett, Fallbrook
