“Hold at all Costs” see Tonight 9 pm/PBS

Mountain Composer, Larry Groupe wrote the score for a documentary airing tonight: Hold at all Costs.  Looking forward to hearing the music composed for this film on Palomar.  Hope you can see it too!  Bonnie

Subject: Re: FW: Memorial Day 2011 – 9PM/PBS – “Hold at all Costs”

This Memorial day, Monday at 9pm on KPBS TV will be the premier of my latest score for the Documentary/Feature….
“Hold at all Costs”  – A forgotten war, in a forgotten time, about forgotten soldiers.

This is the story of “Outpost Harry” – 1953 Korea.  It is an extremely moving film.
The music is used to the full extent of its passionate powers I am quite proud of it.

When you finish your Bar-B-Q settle in or set your video recorder to catch this broadcast.
If you have any interest in the Korean state of affairs today then it behooves you to know
about the 1950’s conflict that happened before.

The film shares the stage with both sides of the DMZ….
The North Koreans and the Chinese army,
as well as the Americans and South Koreans.

This will also be airing in and around this weekend on all major US cities on their local
PBS affiliate.  If you know anyone who was ever associated with the Korean war I urge
you to alert them to this event.  They will thank you.

And I of course thank you as always for supporting independent filmmaking.

Very best,

Larry

From: Marlynn Peak

Wanted to thank you for the post about the Hold at all Costs  program last evening.  We were spell-bound by that piece of our history, knowing about the composer added an additional enjoyment to the program.  Interesting side bar, my Uncle, a WWII vet, was also served in the Korean war.  I vividly remember him leaving with black hair and when he returned a couple of years later his hair was completely white!  He was only in his mid 30s at the time.
Thanks again!  Marlynn

Update, Pancakes and Honor Flight

Memorial Weekend Update from the Mountain!

Hello Everyone!

With the several options these days for ‘social media’, I just sent this message out through another avenue, but know there are so many of you new to this Mountain News site, I thought I’d post for you here too.  If it is a duplicate for you, sorry about that and hope you enjoy the Pancakes and Honor Flight Video and your Memorial Day weekend!

Perhaps you know someone who would love to join us up here and your referrals are sincerely appreciated!

UPDATE, PANCAKES and HONOR FLIGHT

How long has it been now that you have dreamed of owning a piece of paradise on Palomar?  There are lots of recent updates, new listings and price reductions on every page throughout of Palomar Mountain Real Estate

RANCHES – The owner of the 575 acre Jeff Valley said, “sell it” so whew – they really reduced the price.  Bet most of you have admired Hunter’s Rest on your way to the Mountain.  It is the newest listing on the Ranches page.

HOMES – Mountain Rose is vacant now so you can move right in at the reduced price!  News flash:  Several cabin owners will be offering their home or cabin also as a Lease or Vacation Rental.  Simply let me know if that interests you.

CABINS  –  One of my all-time favorites, Big Rock Cabin (formerly ‘Beauty in the Woods’) is back on the market.  Owner’s are moving out of state so it is your turn!  The views are soooooo peaceful from O’Chalet and with the new remodeling, it is ready for your summer fun. The build to suit options could happen pretty quick for you too!

LOTS AND LAND – One of the driveways on your way up the grade that has always intrigued me now invites a new owner to enjoy the spirit of adventure waiting there with 119 acres bordering the National Forest.  The due diligence with county building issues has been checked off for Star Gazer’s Dream…. See what Palomar Mountain area properties have to offer you

MLS SEARCH – See the MLS info to these and anything in Southern Cal with your free Listing Book account!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST – Palomar folks have enjoyed a Pancake Breakfast for many years on the Saturday morning of Memorial Weekend.  YOU are welcome too! Click for all the scoop and looking forward to meeting you there!

STARS AND STRIPES HONOR FLIGHT –  We’re the land of the free because of the brave!  Please share this moving video with your friends as we pause to give thanks to our military.  Now, go out there and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend and I look forward to seeing you ‘round the Mountain real soon!

Have Cabin, Need Furnishings!

From: Tracey Chesney

Do you have some items you’d like to get rid of without the hassle of dragging them down the mountain?

We have a cabin we are working on furnishing and I have a small sedan that doesn’t allow me to bring larger items up the mountain so I end up paying a lot for things to be delivered. I’m looking for a win/win kinda deal. I’ll take your things off your hands for a fair price.

If you have any of the following items, please shoot me an email and let me know how much you’d like to sell them for. I’m not looking for brand new, just good solid pieces that look ok and still have plenty of life left in them. And if you’re able to deliver them to State Park road, that would be an added bonus 🙂

I am in desperate need of the following…

2 Queen Headboards (they don’t have to match)

1 King Headboard

1 queen bed frame (unless one of the queen headboards is the older style that comes with the frame)

A sleeper sofa (queen sized preferred)

2 bedside tables (they don’t have to match)

2 bedside lamps (they don’t have to match)

1 Coffee table

Small arm chair

And a bunch of decorative knickknacks.

Email and let me know what you have. Thanks in advance.

Big Rock Cabin back on the Market

One of my all-time favorite cabins is now back on the market.  Why do I love it so much?  The walls are knotty pine, there is an open beam ceiling, and who can resist a big stone fireplace?  Even though it was built about eight decades ago, it was constructed very open with the kitchen seeing into the living room where you have a private, peaceful, Observatory view through the forest!  Hummmm,  think I’ll have that second cup of tea this morning!  Then, come on up to play and we’ll take off on a tour!

Fun Bluegrass Music at the Lodge

Good old-fashioned fun at the Lodge, last-minute Bluegrass concert!   We promise more notice next time as ‘ James Rust and his Bluegrass Buddies are heading back for an ‘Hot Fun in the Summer Time’ Concert. A special treat was Earl Wells on his Gut Bucket!  Click for recent pix and stay tuned to catch the date of the next one!  Thanks to the Lodge owners for making it available, thanks to all who hauled chairs, brought desserts and came out to hear the toe-tapping music!
