Wood Burning Water Heater Stove For Sale

From: Bob Bekins [mailto:bob@northcountyrealtyassociates.com]
Subject: Wood Burning Water Heaters

Back East in woodsie areas some folks have a good supply of scrap and firewood to heat their homes.  BUT they do it, not through a fireplace, rather by using radiators inside the home which are fed hot water by an outdoor water heater. Of course, you can use the water for your hot water supply also.

We have two available that we tried to use for an industrial purpose that didn’t work out.  They each retail new for $7,500 FOB Missouri but we are offering them for $4,250 each.  Taylor T-750H woodburning exterior water heater,  holds 650 gallons of water, has an 85 cu. ft.heat transfer area  and generates 165,000 BTU in 24 hour, typically on one load of wood,  109 inches long, 47 inches wide, 91 inches high.

Can be picked up in Oceanside or we will deliver for $300.  Weighs about a ton I would guess. It is mounted on skids for slight repositioning.  We have two of them.   Email me and I will forward pictures and distributors spec sheet.

$1.00 Deal for Boucher Lookout!

From: Brad Eells

Subject: Boucher Hill Transfer Complete!

Hey Lookout Fans…

The transfer of Boucher Hill Fire Lookout Station is finally complete! State Parks has taken possession and we will soon be able to go to work!!!

I have placed a copy of the transfer document on the group site if you are interested along with lots of other photos and info:  http://www.socalfirelookouts.org

This is very exciting…but a little depressing as Palomar Mountain State Park is still slated to close on July 1, 2012…

State Parks are pretty good negotiators…the transfer price from Cal Fire was…$1.00…

We have way to many people to thank that have finally made this happen but we’ll get there.

The process began in 1985 with a visit to Boucher Hill from Consulting Archaeologist, Mark V. Thornton…26 years later…the lookout is on its way to rebirth!

Regards,

Brad

Elsie’s Journal – Now a book!

Elsie Hayes began her love of Palomar over 100 years ago. In 1904 as a teen she traveled from Long Beach up Palomar with her parents by horse and wagon.  She attended Pomona College and then chose to teach in the baby state of Arizona for 3 years. Her granddaughter Barbara Beishline Waite began going Palomar as an infant. Her grandchildren look forward to every visit at their family cabin, making 6 generations of lovers of Palomar.

After her marriage in 1916 Elsie and her new husband lived on Palomar and worked the apple ranch for Elsie’s father, Alonzo Hayes. It was WW I and all men that were declared unable to fight were supposed to be involved in ship building or agriculture. Jack Roberts thus began to work the apple ranch. Many people knew Katie Roberts Beishline who was very active on the Mountain.  Her first visit to Palomar was with her mother, Elsie when she was only 6 weeks old.

When Elsie died in 1987 Barbara began to read her grandmothers letters and journals written during her Arizona years. The letters were tied with a faded blue ribbon and revealed a side of her grandmother Barbara had never imagined.

Within the letters and Journal was a love story, and tragedy, woven with a history of life in early Arizona. Barbara has compiled a book taken from those letters and journal. “Elsie- Adventures of an Arizona Schoolteacher 1913-1916” was just published.

Barbara plans her next project to write of Elsie’s years on Palomar from 1904-1924.

Barbara’s website tells “tidbits” and has photos not included in the book. You are invited to visit www.barbaraannewaite.com where you can also order the book and get an autographed copy from Barb.

A wonderful quote from Elsie is found leading off our Community Website  You can also see some poems she wrote of Palomar on our Historical Page  and scroll to ‘Elsie’s Journal’.  Thanks Barb!

Hats off to Chet and Lee!

A charming couple set down at the table next to us at the Veteran’s Day Concert in Valley Center.  He looked so sharp in his WWII uniform.  We visited a bit then I asked to take their photo to share with you. Their story is so heart-warming, I thought many of you would enjoy it too.

Chet and Lee just celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.  They met while she was still in high school.  Lee was only 14 and Chet was an older guy at 19 with lots of girlfriends.  Lee noticed him first at their church when he was visiting friends.  That night at dinner, sitting around their family table with her 7 brothers and sisters, she told everyone, “That is the kind of guy I’d like to marry someday – cute and full of energy!”.

Chet worked in a steel mill where Lee’s father also worked.  One day, her dad brought him home for dinner. Chet found himself around their table for lots of meals and enjoyed being with the family.  Before he left for the War, he asked Lee if she would write him.

He survived the Battle of the Bulge, but was setting up a machine gun in Germany when the Germans sent one his way.  He later wrote Lee that he wouldn’t be going back home because he’d been burned and “looked like a zombie”.  That cute little high school girl encouraged him to come back, and after a couple of years of dating, when she was “old enough” at 18, they got married.

His life would have been so different if she hadn’t said “it doesn’t matter how you look”.  It was a privilege to meet such a special couple.
