Palomar draws the Hardy

It is Summer Time on Palomar! Beautiful! Take a minute before your run to enjoy the great outdoors to read this article. Thanks to one of the hardy, Mary Ann Robinson for sharing with us.  Happy New Year to All!

Please Share so all are in the Know!

The message I just posted from Jerry about locks being cut and roads destroyed by USFS, prompted me to ask your help.  For the past couple years, the Mountain News has been in this new format.  However, people change their email address or perhaps have not subscribed yet.

My mind is racing as I am working to make sure that last message gets to the land owners on the east Grade.

So, I had an idea. May I suggest that YOU please forward this to your Mountain friends suggesting they Subscribe (if they haven’t already)?

It is easy to do.

Simply go to www.palomarmountainnews.com and you will see a button on the top right of the page.  SUBSCRIBE and you will be all set with the latest news, as it hits, of your favorite Mountain!

Thanks for spreading the word!

PRESS RELEASE: Can this be true? Watch out East Grade folks…

For the life of me, I can not imagine why the USFS would cut locks on private property to destroy roads so they can not be used for fire suppression.  However, I have no reason to doubt Jerry’s message below.  Pass the word.

From: Gerald Fisher [mailto:jfisher760@aol.com]
Subject: Wild Grader

Last week we came home to a large Catepiller Road Grader parked on our property in the water company loading area off Hwy. 76.

A call to the contractor named on the equipment disclosed he was working for USFS.

Today, Keith Steinberg, Mgr. of Rey River Ranch (RRR) and I met with the grader supervisor, Mark, of Wm. Kanayan General Contractor:  Tel: (909) 337-5428.

The story told was as follows:

  • The contract covers the Cleveland Nat. Forest (CNF)
  • The work is to tear up existing roads so they cannot be used to service the forest; for fire fighting; to discourage off-road travel.
  • To the south of RRR is an area of CNF.
  • After finishing work adjacent to RRR, their contractor admitted to Keith and I that he ‘cut’ the gate cables on an adjacent private party’s land, and ‘cut’ the gate cable on the RRR.
  • The  contractor tore up RRR roads.
  • When  asked upon what authority he felt he could, by force, enter private property, he answered, “I was told by my contact with USFS (CNF) that it was okay”.
  • Mark further disclosed that he was personally shown, by the CNF person, the  private property road that was to be destroyed.
  • Keith and I made it quite clear that the use of private property, without permission of the owner, under these circumstances has not, is not, permissible. Probably dating back to 1776!!
  • Further, to cause injury to private property, or use of private property, even though supposedly authorized by the CNF, paints the contractor with the same stripes as the government.

I aalert you to this because the next area they were going to work on, starting today, is on and off Hwy 7 , East Grade Road.

The above highlights the observation that not only is there no respect (fire and maintenance) for the Public Lands, trees, wildlife, etc., but none for the taxpayer and his property that pays for this abuse!!

It’s a Silent Night on the Mountain

Did you have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends?  We sure did, and it was so beautiful to see the sunset with our “Silent Night” view from the Mountain top.

Here is an old, but favorite, version of what Christmas is all about.  Sincerely hope you enjoy it, and your last week of 2011!

A Gift to Give – Music for Christmas

Here is another gift idea for you!  Jenna was at the Caroling Party at the Lodge Saturday night.  She sang with other locals with beautiful voices too!  I just saw on Jenna’s Facebook that she has a couple of CDs!  WOW!!!  You can listen to samples, download the albums, or order at her website!

Next time we’ll have some solos!  There sure are some talented people on this mountain!  We need a few more CD’s made, don’t you think!  ( Dutch, Ken, Carla, Leah… for starters!)   Oh, a concert!  That would work!  Stay tuned…  and with a couple more inches of snow today, we just may have a White Christmas!

Caroling Party a Fun Evening!

Oh the fun we had Sunday night Caroling!  Lots of folks volunteered to make the evening possible!  Ken had is guitar warmed up and Peggy brought song books for all. Many thanks to the owners of the Lodge for allowing us to have the event there! Click for the pix!  Many elves set up, decorated, drove the horse trailers, made wonderful chicken noodle soup, yummy dip, appetizers and delicious desserts, monitored the bathrooms & poured in the antifreeze just in time with the temperature dropping so we could wake up to a White Christmas and no frozen plumbing!  The clean up elves were really appreciated too, staying late, so we could have everything out without needing to dance in the snow the next day with tables, chairs, and decorations.

It was very special to get up the next morning and see that our songs of “Let it Snow, Let it Snow”, really WORKED! We are enjoying a beautiful snow on Palomar!

Merry Christmas Everyone!
