Sleds-in-Waiting! Now maybe 20 inches?
Ok, the sleds are waiting for some kids-of-all-ages to pop by! For those of you who don’t have the luxury of simply looking out to see this absolutely beautiful snow, it is comin’ down! I took these pix about an hour ago and now have about 5 inches at our place.
Here is a tip: Unless you are a resident or property owner up here, don’t even think of coming up here without chains and a 4 wheel drive. Snow plow is not even out yet.
Here are some more tips for you: http://www.mypalomarmountain.com/snow/

More smoke and SNOW this week
See note from Wes below – and yes, we may have snow too! See the weather report here.
From: Ruise, Wes -Forest Service
Update on the Fry Creek project, we were able to burn some piles this week in preperation of broadcast burning burning next week Feb. 27 thru March 1.
With broadcast burning, it means more fuel consumption and more smoke in the area, we are looking at, at least 100 acres of down and dead fuels.
As usual, this is all dependant on the weather, it is supposed to be a little cooler this week.

Crestline Mountain Lion
From: Lafe and Karalee Ball
Sent: Saturday, February 25, 2012 12:58 AM
Karalee and I had to run up to the cabin tonight to pick up some stuff. When we were driving out on Crestline Road about 11:20 pm and we happened upon lion trotting down the road. He trotted ahead then took a right turn between Kym McClary’s cabin and the Rutlinger’s cabin to the east. He was a great looking cat a 8-8.5″ and probably went 150-175 lbs and was not scared of us in the car. Just wanted everyone to know to be on the lookout.
Have a great weekend, L&K

Take a look at the HOMES page! You’ll find a log-sided home with a wonderful workshop and guest apartment – all on 24 acres. Come see!
And, is it ok if I brag a bit? My son Nathan, and his partner just finished an amazing re-build in San Diego. You’ll see a couple before and afters on the Homes page. He invited me to see it AFTER he purchased it. Yikes! Built in 1908, it was boarded up, and came with free pets. I didn’t share is vision so didn’t sleep for a week! Take a look at it now! Who do you know that would love a work of art, living in a beautiful Craftsman? Glad to open the doors!
Looking for a CABIN? Simply click for some very fun cabins for your family and friends to enjoy! The Hideaway is an absolute Doll House. Like knotty pine? There are several to choose from, all with price adjustments! Would bordering the National Forest interest you? The East Grade Escape would be perfect!
Is a RANCH on your dream list? There is always something very special in the way of Ranches up here!
How about some LAND? For the life of me, I am very surprised that the GEM of San Diego County, those ABSOLUTELY beautiful 200 acres, are not spoken for yet!!!
Who do you know with a project that could use that amazing County APPROVED Special Use Permit? There are some other options for you on that page too – and you’ll find some with recent SOLD signs! What did Mark Twain say? “Buy land! They aren’t making any more of that stuff!”
Meet me on the Mountain and let’s take off on your Tour!

Correction! State Park NOT open yet!
Very sorry about the last State Park post! I read between the lines, and wrongly assumed it was open, so posted the headline incorrectly. Palomar Mountain State Park is NOT out of the woods yet! Keeping the park open has not been approved by the State yet. My mistake, but glad to get the call today from Michael Walsh and here is the CORRECT info from Michael and how you can help:
From: “Michael J. Walsh”
We do not have an agreement with the State of California yet ! There is no guarantee that we will keep the park open, until we reach and sign an agreement. The funds raised are an impressive show of support from the community, and that has helped us convince the Dept. of Parks and Recreation that we are serious, committed, and working hard to meet our objective of providing the funds necessary to keep the park open.
We hope to keep the Park open, but we can not state that until we have an agreement. Unfortunately there are still a number of scenarios that could derail our plans.
Our work has only begun for raising the funds Palomar needs and deserves. Please keep pledging and spreading the word. Here’s why:
THREE YEAR COMMITMENT – The agreement with the state will require funding for three years. Our first year pledge goal was based on an extremely lean, bare-bones budget… and for just one year. We’ll be making a three year commitment to keep Palomar open…a minimum of $180,000 for the full term.
Let’s keep working hard together and Save our State Park. Please click for the details: http://palomarsp.org/cc/02_13_2012.htm
Thank you,
Michael Walsh

Burning OK in Fry Creek
From: Ruise, Wes -FS [mailto:wruise@fs.fed.us]
Subject: Fry Creek Burn
With the current wet fuel conditions, the Forest Service will probably be burning piles only in the Fry Creek area, off Canfield Road, on Monday , Feb 13.
We will be getting another dose of rain Monday night, and will evaluate the rest of the week as we may be receiving more north east winds.
