We know that a lot of locals depend on our La Jolla Tribal Gas Station for the closest fuel and the last stop before enjoying the desert for the weekend. Unfortunately, we need to replace the tank and pumps. Beginning Tuesday, January 2nd, there will be no more gas sales until mid-March. We do hope that the time-line will be shorter than predicted.
This store will remain open and the Grill is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We appreciate your business!
Happy New Year to all from your neighbors of the La Jolla Tribe.
So bitter-sweet for three brothers and their families to leave the keys for new owners. Isn’t this a beautiful setting? They created this ranch by hand, each building their own cabins plus one for mom. Now, their keys open up an early Christmas ‘toy’ for the new owners with fun adventures in the works.
Meanwhile here are a couple creative ideas from Triple J Ranch:
Some cities have entire neighborhoods of Christmas lights to visit. On Palomar you can drive ’round the mountain and discover what is waiting to discover. You’ll find lots more lights this year tucked away down our little mountain lanes. Thanks to all for sharing their lights with us!
Like some vintage back ground music? Brandon, our Missouri son, appreciates the musicians using older instruments from years gone by and sent this video. The old-time music seems to fit well with our vintage cabins and slower pace many of us cherish so much on the mountain.
Merry Christmasing with You!

Did you know Palomar Mountain has a 320 acre Conference Center? They can feed and house that many folks but are really in need of more staff housing. Take a look at the campus map. They have homes, cabins, cottages, even nice RV’s for staff but just not enough. That is where YOU come in!
Do you have an option for them? Maybe you have a home or cabin tucked away that needs some repair? That might work, too. Preferably on Palomar. They would be open to a month-to-month rental or a year lease and look forward to connecting with you.
I’m an intern at the La Jolla tribe working in natural resources. I was wondering if you happen to know of any potential rooms for rent near Palomar Mountain, or in the surrounding area? Something that’d be available by the beginning of February or before and last until my term ends at the end of July 2024 would be best. A price range of $1,000/m or less would be ideal for my budget. No pets, non-smoking of any kind, no weed, no drugs. aspen1012132@gmail.com

Come ride with me! Fall was so very beautiful this year on Palomar, we must pull over for fun pix to turn around on Palomar Mountain News. Enjoy the views!
Let’s all celebrate the 100th Birthday of this adorable cabin in the woods! Power came to Palomar in the late 1950’s and you’ll see the original electricial installed on the interior of the walls. Let their be light!!! What a joy that must have been! The kitchen stove looks original and most every this else in the cabin was from that era. It is livable but most of you would appreciate a great handyman to shore it up to make it cozy and comfortable for year round living.
The SDGE Project Planner from Rancho Trees left a note that she is needed to compile more info so moved the meet up to tonight, Wednesday at 5:00. These ‘Services Notices’ will be on many doors soon. Please join us at the cabin behind the Water Co!
There are a lot more incorrectly cut trees on Palomar per the calls I received after publishing the post yesterday! The Services Notice states SDGE is having work done on your land “Routine tree pruning to protect overhead power lines… at no cost to you.”
Here is the “routine tree pruning” one property owner came home to recently:
This lovely area is directly across from his parking in front of that poor fir tree. All these stumps look taller than 8 inches and appear to be dead or dying. (Firs seem to prefer keeping their head about them so it is only a matter of time). This view also negatively impacts property values.
SDG&E, Rancho Trees is also associated with DRG or Davey Resource Group. Their representative, is a ‘Project Planner’ and we are providing input for the correction of some of these mistakes that have been made.
Guidelines for cutting in Cleveland National Forest including CalFire requirements:
Since we are within Cleveland National Forest, their guidelines require that no stump be left taller that 8 inches on the tall side. These stumps and many more are 20 to 30 feet.
CAL FIRE now has annual inspections and one of the requirements states: “If you have dead or dying trees on your property, the entire tree needs to be removed to reduce wildfire risk.”
In addition, CAR, California Association of Real Estate has guidelines now through a state law, requiring a seller provide a CAL FIRE clearance or the Buyer needs to take the responsibility and have the work done within 30 days.
The more, the merrier, come rain or shine to Anne and Wayne’s (aka A&W), 5 pm tonight.
Take Crestline Road to the Lodge, first cabin on left, behind the Palomar Water Co.
See you there,
