Very Happy Turkey Trot

Look at those happy turkeys! They made it through Thanksgiving and Christmas and know that most folks don’t celebrate with turkey for New Years Eve.

When I get up early enough I often catch my pals strolling past my desk on their morning walk-about. But those birds are fast and don’t stand around to visit. A quick ‘hello’ and they are on their way. This was taken a few years ago when my phone woke up just in time for the last four of a dozen or so cruising by.

Palomar hasn’t had snow yet and is expecting only a dusting this week but maybe more next week? Please stay tuned and the very Merriest of New Years to you and you Family!

Hello from the Idaho Dyson Family

Most everyone on Palomar has depended on Jeremy to plow their driveway and repair their vehicles the past few years on the mountain. Jeremy’s great grandparents built their charming cabin while living next door in the 1980’s. Later, his parents couldn’t resist another cabin down the mountain lane plus an adjoining piece of land that now has a big three story home. Lot of happy memories on Palomar with so much of their family roots up here.

But, their little daughter’s grandparents were calling them to Idaho! A summer visit to Jeremy’s folks was all it took to get their new home in escrow, just a mile and a half away. As most of you know, we got their cabin sold, they headed north and took their snow plow with them! (Stay tuned for more news about snow plowing!)

After seeing the photos Stephanie sent, I had to give her a call. They are so happy being close to Jeremy’s family with lots of cousins for little Jewels. The former owner mowed their property line so it makes for a fun hike around their 5 acres of views. Stephanie said it is so beautiful with the lakes and rivers they pass by going into town.

Happy New Year to all their mountain friends from Jeremy, Stephanie and Jewels!

La Jolla Tribal Gas Station closing for 2 months

From Wes Ruise

We know that a lot of locals depend on our La Jolla Tribal Gas Station for the closest fuel and the last stop before enjoying the desert for the weekend. Unfortunately, we need to replace the tank and pumps. Beginning Tuesday, January 2nd, there will be no more gas sales until mid-March. We do hope that the time-line will be shorter than predicted.

This store will remain open and the Grill is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We appreciate your business!

Happy New Year to all from your neighbors of the La Jolla Tribe.

New Owner for Triple J Ranch and DIY Tip

So bitter-sweet for three brothers and their families to leave the keys for new owners. Isn’t this a beautiful setting? They created this ranch by hand, each building their own cabins plus one for mom. Now, their keys open up an early Christmas ‘toy’ for the new owners with fun adventures in the works.

Meanwhile here are a couple creative ideas from Triple J Ranch:

Thankful for all the recent rain!

Very Merry Christmas to YOU!

Christmas Lights and Vintage Music

Some cities have entire neighborhoods of Christmas lights to visit. On Palomar you can drive ’round the mountain and discover what is waiting to discover. You’ll find lots more lights this year tucked away down our little mountain lanes.  Thanks to all for sharing their lights with us!

Like some vintage back ground music? Brandon, our Missouri son, appreciates the musicians using older instruments from years gone by and sent this video. The old-time music seems to fit well with our vintage cabins and slower pace many of us cherish so much on the mountain.

Merry Christmasing with You!

2 or 3 bedroom home to rent?

Did you know Palomar Mountain has a 320 acre Conference Center? They can feed and house that many folks but are really in need of more staff housing. Take a look at the campus map. They have homes, cabins, cottages, even nice RV’s for staff but just not enough. That is where YOU come in!

Do you have an option for them? Maybe you have a home or cabin tucked away that needs some repair? That might work, too. Preferably on Palomar. They would be open to a month-to-month rental or a year lease and look forward to connecting with you.

Do you have a room to rent for 6 months?

From: Sean Evangelista

Room for Rent?

I’m an intern at the La Jolla tribe working in natural resources. I was wondering if you happen to know of any potential rooms for rent near Palomar Mountain, or in the surrounding area? Something that’d be available by the beginning of February or before and last until my term ends at the end of July 2024 would be best. A price range of $1,000/m or less would be ideal for my budget. No pets, non-smoking of any kind, no weed, no drugs. aspen1012132@gmail.com

Thank you,

Sean
