Robert and Anita were on their way to his mother’s 100th Birthday party today. Mom is German but the party is Scott, complete with bagpipes. Not too often do we see this kind of fun eye-candy in front of the post office. Just had to share with you!

Badwater Race to Palomar in May
This is one tough race to begin at the Salton Sea and run the 81 miles to Palomar. Last year it was 99 degrees out in Borrego where they went through a wind storm before reaching the mountain. It was after dark when they hit Ranchita, then greeted with rain and 34 degrees on the Mountain. I learned about this race from Joseph Nakamura who participated last year an is back this year with a new team, staying at Cabin Fever. I thought some of you subscribers would like to hear about the race, too and maybe even be out that first Sunday night in May to cheer them on to the finish line. Read More…
Friends of Vance White
At the last Fire Department Barbecue, Vance sat down at my booth and we had a nice visit. He sure loved coming up to the mountain and enjoying his view at “White’s Wee Hoose in the Sky” out on Birch Hill. Read More…
Happy Valentine’s Day to All
Saw this little sign the other day in a store. Made me think of ‘The Treasures’ – our grandkids. I often say to them “Have I told you today? I love you. I really, really love you…”
This morning I woke up remembering another little story and thought I’d share it with all of you Mountain News subscribers. Oh, it is more of a Facebook post… but, for some reason – you mountain folks are on my mind, so decided I should post it here. Read More…
Friends of Doug Tillinghast
Many of us have fond memories of “Cool Cat” Doug singing occasionally at the Fire Department Barbecues. A very talented musician, and a kind, family man. Doug’s roots to Palomar go back about 100 years. His grandfather was talented and much-loved, too. I can always recognize a Tillinghast fireplace. Doug’s grandfather built the Lodge at the end of Crestline, and left a beautiful signature on quite a few cabins up here. Read More…

Like to share a Dumpster on Crestline?
Barbara MacCurry has a trash dumpster that is now shared with two other people. There is room for a couple more to squeeze in. (That doesn’t sound right… YOU don’t get in the dumpster, you know. It is just a convenient place to leave your trash on the mountain).
The dumpster is located just past Road Marker 11 on the right side of Crestline Road. It is locked and each person that shares has a key. Trash is picked up each Monday.

(Wow, someone could have fun playing with this ad. Mondays could be a social event, something like, oh, never mind… this lovely rain is getting to me.)
