Have you seen McFarland yet? A GREAT must-see movie we really enjoyed a couple weeks ago. Alumni from that school, including a guy from the movie, came in one minute and 39 seconds faster than the second place team. (Wow, close race!!!) Here’s the news of the McFarland winners of Sunday’s race with the finish line at the top of Palomar Mountain: http://www.turnto23.com/news/local-news/mcfarland-alumni-win-badwater-salton-sea-2015-race

I would also loooove to see you at Badwater Presents Mustang Trail Race in Nepal this October 17-31. The Mustang region where our eight-day stage race will take place was not affected by the recent earthquake. However, the people of Nepal could use the positive economic impact of our race and racers, and the positive PR that “Nepal is still open for business” is an important message we will help spread. Do you have propane?
Have a little story for you. On the phone last week, I was talking about smoke detectors. I made the comment that I didn’t think we had them in our place on Palomar. (Imagine that, a Realtor, with no smoke detectors?!??). We bought our place in 1998 and I just never remembered seeing any. Fast forward a few days. Wandering around at the mountain house, I looked up in the top peek above the stairs, sure enough, there was a smoke detector. Then I found a few more.
However, we did not have any smoke detectors in our bedrooms. California now requires smoke detectors in living areas and bedrooms, too, since someone might sleep with their door closed. You are also to have carbon monoxide detectors installed in kitchens.
The cowboy that I live with was in the city, so I gave him a call. He came home with a couple units that I’d never seen before: Smoke detectors with a 10 year battery life! And, carbon monoxide detectors that also protect against propane or natural gas leaks. That makes a lot of sense since we are in a pretty active earthquake area and most cabins use propane for cooking, water heaters, and now some wonderful propane fireplaces ’round the mountain, too.
The propane detection is not part of the “rules” for real estate, but seem very important to me. Just thought I’d pass the info on, as some of you might want to update your units, like we just did.
(Yes, there is still snow. Couple inches max. Now, not much – very wet and slushy. Roads are totally clear. Very lovely in front of the fire…).

May on the Mountain
A certain cowboy I know asked me to take a pic of his truck this morning. He said to post it to show his family and friends, down south in Carolina, what it is like in California today.
Thought some of you subscribers on to the Palomar Mountain News might like to see what is happening ’round the mountain, too!
Time to get those sleds out!

81 mile Race to Palomar this weekend!
The weatherman promises 100 degrees in the desert this weekend for these racing teams on their way to Palomar. They will appreciate the cooler temps on the Mountain! One of the teams is staying at Cabin Fever. It was fun to hear about the race, their team and their cause.
The race begins down at the Salton Sea and the finish line is at the top of the mountain at Upper Meadow Lodge. Lets cheer them on!!!
Here is a link their Badwater Salton Sea FundRACING Team
We are raising funds to fight childhood inactivity through the 100 Mile Club. For those of you who don’t know much about the 100 Mile Club, check them out at 100mileclub.com. Fire Hazard Inspections and Compliance
From: Station Chief Cliff Kellogg
Palomar Mountain Fire Hazard Inspections
Starting Thursday, May 7, 2015 the U. S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE will begin performing Fire Hazard/Defensible Space Inspections on Palomar Mountain. The intent of these inspections is to assist residents in properly preparing their home and/or property to help protect it in the event that a wildfire threatens our community. The inspection also will be used to ensure that all home and property owners comply with the following codes/regulations (68.404(a) SDCCRO), (68.404(b) SDCCRO), (68.404(c) SDCCRO), (4907.3.1CFC), (4291(a)(6)Public Resources Code), (503.2.1 CFC), (3807.3CFC), and (505.1CFC).
Inspections will be made at random, and not all properties will be inspected. Properties without structures, but having vegetation within 100’ of neighboring structures will need to remove or thin vegetation, or allow removal or thinning, to provide the designated clearance.
If the property/structure is found to be in compliance, the inspection form will be signed off as compliant and a copy sent to the County of San Diego for their records.
If the property/structures does not comply, the homeowner will receive a list of the corrections necessary to comply with regulations and a copy will be sent to the County of San Diego’s Enforcement Division.
Once corrections are made, the homeowner may request a re-inspection of the property. The re-inspection will be documented and a copy sent to the County of San Diego.

3.7 inches of Rain!
Such a beautiful day waking up to sunny sky and 3.7 inches of rain fall recorded on our gauge on State Park Road. It is amazing how much of a difference in rain fall there is across the mountain. If you’d like to share your rain totals, please comment.
Just had to stop and take these for you on my way to church this morning. Such a lovely scent in the air and fun to see the clouds hovering below the mountain.
Such a blessing for our little thirsty mountain!
Happy Sunday Everyone!
