Bear in the Dumpster!

Driving past our dumpster this morning, I stopped and backed up to take a pic. “A bear must have tipped that over!” I got out of the car carefully to make sure he wasn’t inside having a tasty little breakfast (but, darn that could have made a cute pic!!!).

Sure enough, our neighbor at the end of Fern Meadow Road said there was a brown colored bear up on his deck about 4 am. He’s been traveling around. A few days ago a front porch camera might have caught the same one on Fern Trail over off Bailey Meadow Road.

Just a heads-up to keep your eye out and start locking your dumpsters… and have that camera ready!

    Hi, Bonnie —

Yes, it probably was ye olde bear. Posts on Next Door for the past week or two have shown trail cam videos and photos of a bear roaming around down in Pauma Valley. Apparently, folks down there were initially a bit timid about sharing trail cam images, since they thought their neighbors would think they were making things up! They were also hesitant about sharing news about the bear, for fear it would be put down… I bet you are on Next Door and already know all this, too!

This week, Brad and Mary (down at the end of Ann Soward’s road) said they spotted a bear with two cubs? Considering Brad & Mary’s habits of tippling, etc. I do wonder what they saw?

In any case, we’ve gone into “Montana mode” — leave no food garbage in outside trash cans, keep cabins closed up, remove all power bars and other food goodies from inside vehicles, and keep an eye open for the presence or evidence of bears.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Best wishes,

Thanks so much Anne. I’ll turn around your Montana Mode tips.

I’m assuming (hoping rather) they meant black bear, brown in color. 🙏🏽
