In 2009 the San Diego/Riverside chapter of the Forest Fire Lookout Association, in partnership with the US Forest Service, restored and returned to service the High Point Fire Lookout on Palomar Mountain. 2012 is the fourth year that FFLA volunteers have been staffing the lookout during fire season. Several of the recent lightning fires in the area were first reported by the High Point lookout.
Recently FFLA has been working with the State Park to restore and return to service Boucher Hill Lookout in Palomar Mountain State Park. On September 1 this will become a reality as the lookout will open as an operating fire lookout and State Park interpretation site. Are you going to be on the Mountain Saturday? Volunteer lookouts are needed. Come by and see photos of historical lookouts, learn more about the lookouts on Palomar, and get information on how you can assist with these important projects.
