Moving toward keeping our State Park OPEN!

Greetings!

My name is Rick Barclay, chairman of the Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park Committee.

At this time our organization’s main mission is to SAVE PALOMAR from closure. As most of you are aware, Palomar Mountain State Park is one of the 70 parks slated for permanent closure this July. The park simply isn’t self sufficient, meaning revenue just doesn’t cover expenses, even after the operating budget’s been slashed to the bone.

However, there is a way we can keep Palomar open… but it will depend on people just like you.

In December we submitted a proposal to the Department of State Parks in Sacramento with what we feel is a pretty straightforward deal: If they’ll keep Palomar open, we’ll cover the deficit — or “the gap”” — between revenue and operating costs. After much analysis, to do this prudently will require us to raise $60,000 per year.

Frankly, we’re not asking for donations at this time (though they are always welcome!) since we’re still waiting to hear back from the Department of State Parks to see if we even have a deal. No deal, no park.

Nevertheless, we need to prepare NOW so that, if and when we do hammer out a deal with the Department of State Parks, we can hit the ground running. Therefore, effective immediately we are kicking off a PLEDGE DRIVE.

Please take a moment and let us know how much money you’d be willing to donate this year to keep Palomar open if we’re able to reach an agreement with the Department of State Parks. You can do this on-line via our website::  http://www.savepalomar.org/ . Remember, we’re only asking you to pledge — to tell us how much you’d be willing to give if we work things out with the Department of State Parks.

If you’ve been clamoring for a way to keep Palomar open, you should be clamoring to pledge. Time is running short, and this solution is our last remaining hope to SAVE PALOMAR. It’s time to fish or cut bait.

PLEDGE NOW. And when you’re done, TELL OTHERS.

Do it NOW.

Thank you,

Rick Barclay
