Mountain folks are up in arms about these burglaries!!!
Quite a few ideas and comments have come my way. Here are a few (that I can publish) that should be a help:
1. Mark your stuff – One of the mountain guys said he used an engraver and put his registered brand on all his tools and shop equipment. Ok, most of us don’t have a brand, but it is suggested, of course, to NOT engrave your social security or driver’s license number. If you have a phone number you think will out-last you, that might be your best option. Engraving is the best for tools etc. You can also use water proof markers, and mark EVERYTHING – inside your books, stuff hanging on the wall, instruments, appliances, TVs, computers, phones, antiques, everything. Mark things consistent – back or bottom of item, lower left corner, for example. Doesn’t have to be big.
2. Take Serial Numbers and Photos – Go through your cabin, castle, garage, barn, or ‘out back’ and take photos of everything. Keep a copy at your office or at your friend’s in the city. If something is stolen, you have photos for the Sheriff, and for your insurance company. (Also a good idea with fire season coming up to have a very complete photo library.)
3. Write down suspicious vehicle license numbers, vehicle descriptions, driver descriptions, date, and time, and call it in to the Sheriff’s Office. 760 752-4400
4. Keep an extra eye out – but be careful – don’t want anyone hurt.
5. Spread the word – talk to your neighbors, call the folks that come up only occasionally, let them know what is going on. Check up on each other.
6. You might also suggest to anyone you talk to, that they subscribe to the Mountain News https://palomarmountainnews.wordpress.com and we’ll keep you posted on the latest.
The plan is that the word will get out that the bad guys won’t want to “Mess with the Mountain” Let’s come together and do what we can to put a stop to this and return to our safe and peaceful Palomar!
