Another Burglary on Palomar! STOP these guys!!!

From: Nancy Anderson

My husband bought some acreage on Palomar mountain long before we knew each other. He built his cabin by hand.  I immediately fell in love with Ron, the mountain and his cabin.  We were married there thirty years ago.  Over the years we have added on and refined it.  Now its a comfortable home.

On July 6th my husband was on his way to the Highpoint fire lookout where he volunteers, when he noticed that the gate to our property was open.  He went in to investigate and found that some inbred, lazy, morons had used bolt cutters to cut the chain to our gate and shed, and had entered the house through a sliding door.  Among the more notable things that were taken were all our treasures:

Coleman Powermate Powerbase 2250 electric generator  (We think it is more that one thief because this was a big generator.  We’d secured it to a dolly.  They took it off the dolly, threw that in the bushes.  One strong guy could have picked it up though).

Pair of antique snow shoes

Vintage Radio Flyer child’s sled

Arrowhead collection

Short and long-handled axes

Battery Coleman lanterns

Dozen or so flashlights

Two antique Horner harmonicas

Collection of flutes and whistles

Binoculars (in a black case)

Propane tanks

and a book of Palomar Mountain history  (how nice, the burglars are intrigued with history of this Mountain?)

We initially had told people that they took our big ladders which would have pointed to someone who drives a truck.  After our visit today, Ron found the ladders that he hadstored in a different location.  So, the “getaway car” could have been any type of vehicle.

We are fortunate that there was no vandalism in connection with this break in, but the house was totally ransacked.  Every drawer and cupboard was rifled through and the house was left wide open for mice, bugs and who knows what else to get in.

We are offering a generous reward for the return of our property or information which will lead to the arrest of the low life thieves.  Instead of enjoying the serenity of our mountain they should be cooling their heels in prison.

I can’t help but think that these thieves are going to want to show off, or brag about what they took. Of course these items are easy to sell at  swap meets, pawnshops, or on Craigslist.  They made such a great haul.  Since hearing about the Birch Hill burglary where they stole a generator, tools and guitars – wow, thieves might think the mountain is easy pickin’s.  LET’S PUT A STOP TO THIS!

Please keep your eye out and write down any suspicious license numbers, vehicle and driver descriptions to pass on to the Deputies.  Let’s get to the bottom of “Bolt Cutter Burglars”, put them where they belong, and return to the peaceful mountain the rest  of us enjoy.

Any information can be given to Deputy Power at the Valley Center Substation at (760) 751-4434.

For many years our family had a cabin on the Bailey place, truly heaven on earth. One winter in the mid 60’s someone took up house keeping in it without our knowledge. They liked the place well enough to burn quite a bit of firewood, eat what food was stored for the winter and generally make themselves at home. When they left they placed a long note on the table detailing all the things they didn’t like about the place, and made suggestions on improvements they’d like to see happen. After reading about the recent thefts on The Mountain I’d say we got by pretty easily. Hope you catch those responsible.
